When one angry person made some inappropriate comments online about Patton Oswalt, the kind star responded with an incredible act of kindness: fundraising to help pay the man’s dire medical bills.
Actor and comedian Patton Oswalt is known for being a caring, blunt, and compassionate human being off-screen, and his recent actions have proved just that.
One of his followers attacked him with two comments online, saying, “I just realized why I was so happy you died in Blade Trinity!” and “And you shoot basketball ike [sic] the sawed off little man you are.” While both of these comments were highly inappropriate, Patton decided to dig a little deeper and took a look at the person’s profile. What he found deeply moved him, and he shared the following post online:
Aw, man. This dude just attacked me on Twitter and I joked back but then I looked at his timeline and he’s in a LOT of trouble health-wise. I’d be pissed off too. He’s been dealt some shitty cards — let’s deal him some good ones. Click and donate — just like I’m about to. https://t.co/6zRdZ430WG

“Aw, man,” he wrote. “This dude just attacked me on Twitter and I joked back but then I looked at his timeline and he’s in a LOT of trouble health-wise. I’d be p***ed off too. He’s been dealt some sh***y cards — let’s deal him some good ones. Click and donate — just like I’m about to.”
Patton discovered that the man, Michael Beatty, had recently been in the hospital for two-weeks battling a serious blood infection called sepsis. He had also been struggling to deal with diabetes, and Beatty had setup a GoFundMe for himself to help pay the $5,000 medical bill which he couldn’t afford.
Patton felt compassion for the man, and even though Beatty had made some very cruel comments about him, he decided to instantly donate $2,000 to the man’s GoFundMe and then he asked and encouraged his fans to do the same.
Within 24 hours, they had raised over $35,000 for Michael Beatty to help him with his medical conditions.
While Beatty was witnessing what was happening, he was overwhelmed, humbled, and ultimately truly grateful. He responded to Patton with the following post:
Patton. You have humbled me to the point where I can barely compose my words. You have caused me to take pause and reflect on how harmful words from my mouth could result in such an outpouring. Thank you for this and I will pass this on to my cousin who needs help. A cascade. pic.twitter.com/6Is7KflPeY

Patton chose to respond with kindness towards the man’s angry comments, and it changed Beatty’s life.
Beatty also wrote a post thanking everyone of Patton’s fans who helped him:
I want to thank everyone who came to my aid with generous outpourings- and also to @pattonoswalt without whom I would not be the recipient of so much love and support. I'm not a man who ever cries but I had to wait to send this. And to quote Stuart on Big Bang "meat tonight"! pic.twitter.com/r4Kc9zYk7E

Patton Oswalt has been known to be kind and generous towards charitable causes. One user recently mentioned Patton and asked him if he could match his donation to the Dayton Food Bank; a charity that was actively working to help numerous tornado victims in Ohio.
Within hours, the following post appeared:
Patton’s beautiful heart shows us how kindness and love are more powerful than anger and hate; that compassion mirrors divine love. Often those who are very angry vocally are the ones who are suffering the most, and thanks to compassionate people like Patton and his fans, they were able to turn an angry and inappropriate outburst into something truly kind, helpful and beautiful.
You are Loved.
