Add White Vinegar To Your Laundry For These Unexpected Benefits (I Never Knew This!)

Distilled white vinegar is a common kitchen ingredient that can be found in just about any kitchen in every home. While it is usually used for cooking, there are a variety of beneficial uses.

Laundry Detergent

One of the best and less known uses of white vinegar is that of a cleaner. It’s biodegradable, cheap and an eco-friendly laundry detergent that is quite effective.

Fabric Softener

We all love the warm and cozy feeling of new soft clothes and towels, but often that feeling is gone after the first wash.

To keep that feeling, add 1/8-1/4 cup of white vinegar to your rinse dispenser, and your clothes and towels will become soft and cozy again, just like when you first bought them. The vinegar also helps to prevent cling!

Sanitize Your Clothes

White vinegar is also useful as a disinfectant. It eliminates the bacteria and germs that are often found on clothes. Simply add 1/8-1/4 of a cup of vinegar to your laundry instead of bleach.

Prevent Color-Bleed

You can prolong and preserve the color of your clothes by adding vinegar to the beginning of your washing cycle, which helps to protect against color-bleed.

Soaking clothes overnight in a mixture of water, soap and a little vinegar can also be an effective way to clean them.

Whitening Whites

White clothes are difficult to maintain, as wear and tear causes them to become dirtier over time.

To prevent this, add 1/4-1/8 cup of vinegar to your wash each time you do the whites. If you’re looking to get them as clean looking as possible with no stains, then soak whites overnight in a mixture of water, detergent, and ¼ cup vinegar before you wash them.

Remove Odors From Sports Clothes

If you’re an athlete and/or like to workout, sometimes unpleasant odors can remain in your clothes. Laundry detergent doesn’t always remove the smell based on the type of material of the gear, but distilled white vinegar can help.

Add 1/4-1/8 cup of vinegar to your washing machine to remove the odor, and you can also soak the gear in a mixture of water, detergent and vinegar to really get the smells out.

Stain Remover

Spray white vinegar on recent stains and let it soak for a couple of minutes. After put the clothes into the regular wash cycle and watch as the stains are gone after you next look for them!

For stains that have been there for a while, add a bit more vinegar to the affected areas and use a cloth to rub it in. After the stains have lightened a bit, then put the clothes into the wash.

Clean Your Laundry Machine

It’s a good idea to clean your laundry machine at least once a month. This helps to disinfect and remove any bacteria in the interior of the washing machine, and can also remove hard water deposits as well as detergent residue. If you’re in a humid climate, this will also help remove and prevent mold from forming.

Add a mixture of 1 cup vinegar into an empty wash cycle, then run it.
