When Nadine Nowrick was shopping at her local Costco, seeing a hungry young girl opened her heart to give.
“I was in my local Costco [on a] weeknight after work just grabbing a few things,” Nadine explained. “I was by the rotisserie chickens and saw a young woman with her daughter, [who] looked to be about 7-yrs-old.”
After seeing the young girl eyeing the rotisserie chickens on sale, but passing them by, she decided to start an innocent conversation.
“The mom was holding the daughter’s hand and looking at the chickens, and I could tell she wanted one so I said, ‘These chickens are the best deal. They are good, tasty and inexpensive. At $4.99 it’s a great buy.’ The woman looked at me nervously and asked if it was $4.99 per lb or for the whole chicken, so at this point I guessed she may not be able to afford it. I explained it was for the whole chicken. We talked a bit more and she thanked me and picked up a chicken.”
After speaking briefly with the mother who inquired intently about the price, Nadine could sense that they may not be able to afford much for groceries, so as the girl’s mother was choosing a rotisserie, Nadine secretly dropped the cash she had in her pocket into the woman’s shopping bag.
“As she was doing that I had some $$ in my pocket and dropped it into her bag so she wouldn’t notice, then walked away.”
Nadine was in line at a nearby register when the mother and daughter came to pay, and as the mother went for her wallet, she found the money. The look of relief of her face was clearly visible.
“Later as I was at the register, she was at a register nearby, and [as she was] going to get her $$ out she found the money, and you could see the relief on her face. I think of her and that child and hope and pray they are ok.”
Many have been moved to tears by the beautiful simplicity of Nadine’s kindness for the young girl and her mother, and have also been inspired.
“Ok going to cry now. I was a young single mother of 3 children. Let me say….an Angel just like YOU did this for my family. I truly did not know how I would feed my children that week. A random stranger put some money in my bag. I never did know who. Bless your heart….always. ❤?❤” commented Toni H.
